Job Summary:

The Assistant Accountant supports the finance team by performing a variety of accounting tasks, including preparing financial reports, reconciling accounts, assisting with audits, and handling both accounts payable and receivable. Key Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Assist in the processing of invoices, payments, and receipts, ensuring accurate record-keeping and timely processing.
  • General Ledger Maintenance: Support the maintenance of the general ledger by posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accuracy of financial transactions.
  • Bank Reconciliation: Perform regular bank reconciliations, ensuring all transactions are recorded and discrepancies are resolved.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including profit and loss accounts, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
  • Month-End Closing: Assist with the month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals, prepayments, and other journal entries.
  • Expense Reporting: Process and review employee expense claims, ensuring compliance with company policies and proper documentation.
  • VAT Returns: Assist in preparing VAT returns and ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
  • Fixed Asset Management: Help maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring accurate recording of asset acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation.
  • Assist with Audits: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to auditor queries.
  • Ad Hoc Financial Tasks: Support the finance team with ad hoc tasks such as financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements.

Key Requirements:

  • Education: AAT qualification or currently studying towards an accounting qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA).
  • Experience: 1-3 years of experience in an accounting or finance-related role.
  • Skills:

    • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, Xero) and Microsoft Excel.
