About the Business

Our client is a growing e-commerce business with a turnover of approximately £10 million, operating across multiple sales platforms and channels. With a strong brand presence and a loyal customer base, the company is now looking to strengthen and professionalise its financial operations as it enters its next stage of growth.

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Fractional Finance Director (FD) or CFO to lead a short-term strategic finance project, with potential for ongoing part-time involvement.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to shape the finance function of a fast-moving e-commerce business. Working closely with the senior leadership team, you’ll drive improvements across finance systems, processes, and reporting while mentoring the internal team to ensure sustainable change.

You will begin with a 5–8 day initial overhaul project onsite, followed by ad hoc strategic support on a flexible basis.

Key Responsibilities

🔧 Finance Function Overhaul

  • Lead a full review of current finance systems, processes, and controls.
  • Identify areas for improvement and cost-efficiency within financial operations.
  • Possibly oversee finance system selection and implementation.

📊 Financial Management & Reporting

  • Enhance monthly management accounts, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting processes.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the parent company.

🧩 Team Development & Leadership

  • Review the finance team structure and responsibilities.
  • Train and support the returning Finance Manager with a view to continuity in the FM role.
  • Provide guidance to the Finance Assistant as needed.

🛒 E-commerce & Platform Consolidation

  • Tackle the key challenge of multi-platform sales and payment reconciliation.
  • Design robust solutions for platform consolidation and reporting accuracy.

🤝 Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with Directors to communicate solutions clearly and deliver training where required.
  • Collaborate with the external accountancy firm (currently handling payroll and year-end) to ensure alignment.
Job Benefits

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with strong experience in SME finance leadership.
  • Proven background in e-commerce finance – including knowledge of platform consolidation, stock, and payments.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic, and process-driven.
  • Comfortable working in a fractional or part-time FD/CFO capacity.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Experience in finance transformation, systems implementation, and team development.
  • Available to start immediately or at short notice, with ability to work onsite in Doncaster for the initial project.
